What’s the best way to sell estate items? This is a common question that people ask whether it’s downsizing an estate or liquidating a loved one’s assets.

Selling estate items can be relatively quick and easy depending on the method you choose to sell. It really all depends on your time frame and how much energy you have to dedicate to this type of project. 

Of course, we are a little biased, but we believe the best way to sell estate items is via an online estate sale auction. This option allows you to sell everything all at once quickly. If you conduct the online estate sale yourself, there will be some work involved including writing descriptions and taking pictures of each item.

Here are a few more ways to sell estate items:

1. Sell via online marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, Mercari, Etsy, etc. This method can take weeks or months to get rid of everything. Also, with this method, you will need (or you can hire someone) to write descriptions, take pictures and upload all items to each marketplace. Not to mention you may also have to market or advertise the items as well. As you can see, it can be time-consuming.

2. Hold a garage sale. This is a relatively easy way to sell estate items. It’s possible that not everything will sell, but you can always donate whatever does not sell. You also may not get top dollar for items as most people who go to garage sales are looking for bargains. 

3. Sell via a consignment store. This is a good option if you don’t want to store things in the home. You can take everything to the consignment store and they will sell on your behalf. Of course, they may not take everything that you want to sell. Also,  just like selling on online marketplaces, it may take a while to sell everything.
