Top collectibles to sell now

Spring is in full swing and as you go through your spring cleaning rituals, perhaps it dawned on you that you have become quite the collector with alot of “stuff”.

This is a great time to take inventory of your collectibles and think about selling some items to make a little money for a spring or summer getaway. Or maybe you’ve started a new collection and need to make room for this latest investment.

Just like real estate, collectibles go through their own up and down cycle of value. There may be some collectibles that you should probably hold onto just because their values have gone down. Then there are collector’s items that are considered “hot” right now with market demand causing their value to rise.

If you’re considering selling some of your collectibles, here are a few that may get you a pretty penny:

Sports Memorabilia – Although it is a volatile market, one thing hasn’t changed: People are passionate about sports and athletes. And if you can get your hands on a historic item, your profits have immediately skyrocketed. Just recently the “Laws of Base Ball” sold for more than $3.2 million. The documents, which were written back in 1857 and outlined the rules for the sport, were handwritten by Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, president of the New York Knickerbockers Base Ball Club.

Vinyl Records – Vinyl sales have been increasing over the past 10 years, and according to this Forbes article, in 2015 sales surged 30 percent. In Nielsen’s 2015 U.S. Year-End Report, these were the top 10 best-selling vinyl albums in 2015:

1. Adele – 25 (116,000)
2. Taylor Swift – 1989 (74,000)
3. Pink Floyd – Dark Side Of The Moon (50,000)
4. The Beatles – Abbey Road (49,800)
5. Miles Davis – Kind Of Blue (49,000)
6. Arctic Monkeys – AM (48,000)
7. Sufjan Stevens – Carrie & Lowell (44,900)
8. Alabama Shakes – Sound & Color (44,600)
9. Hozier – Hozier (43,000)
10. Various Artists – Guardians Of The Galaxy Soundtrack (43,000)

Of course, since vinyl records are hot collectibles, it’s only natural that record players are turntables are also bringing high prices right now.

Mid-Century Furniture and Home Decor – Eames chairs, Bertoia sculptures, Nelson clocks, and other home decor from the 50’s and 60’s have experienced a revival.
