Shopping Online Estate Sales: Our List of Things to Buy and Sell For Profit

Many of our estate sale buyers are people on the hunt for unusual or vintage items to add to their personal collections. We also have buyers who are store owners or online shop owners
looking for items that can be bought at a low price and flipped for a profit.

Buying low and selling high requires knowledge of the marketplace and keeping on top of trends in the industries you are specializing in. One way to gain more knowledge is to read magazines and blogs to see what are popular or highly sought-after items. You can also visit brick-and-mortar stores and talk to the people who work there to get an idea of their hot sellers.

There are many articles about this topic, and it seems like everyone has an opinion on the best things to buy and sell for profit. We’ve come up with our own list of items that could be bought at low prices and sold for a nice chunk of change. Keep in mind that this list is based on our past online
auction events:

Antique and vintage barware – Antique liquor bottles, decanters, and drink glasses can sometimes be bought for a few dollars and then resold for triple or quadruple the amount.

Vintage globes – Upcycling vintage globes is very popular among crafty DIYers. You can give a globe a fresh coat of paint and sell it for a $100+ dollars on sites like Etsy. Read more about upcycling in a previous post.

Vintage electronics – Everything from vintage AM/FM radio receivers, clock radios, and turntables can make you alot of money.

Vintage men’s accessories – Belt buckles, watches, and razors can be hidden treasures in our online estate sales.

Vintage jewelry – Every once in awhile we come across vintage designer brooches and items from Tiffany & Co. that can be bought at relatively low prices.

Bar carts – Just like globes, bar carts are high ticket items when given new life via a fresh coat of paint.

Old cast iron – Vintage or antique Wagner/Griswold skillets, pans, and dutch ovens can be bought and resold for a couple hundred dollars.

Trunks – We always have at least one or two antique trunks in the Father Joe’s Villages Specialty
Auctions. Many people restore trunks and use them as coffee tables.

Copper and Brass – Metalware is making a comeback and has become a hot trend in home decor.

Buying items in online estate sales and reselling for profit takes a great deal of patience and a good eye for deals. It’s just like any venture – the more you do it, the more experience you’ll have and the easier it will be to make money.
