The pandemic has changed how businesses are run. People have been laid off, quit work, or have decided that the regular 9-5 grind just isn’t for them anymore.
What has emerged is a large sector of people creating their own businesses from their passions or what was once just a hobby.
The online auction industry has also grown because people have been spending more time online shopping rather than physically going to stores.
If you love online auctions, why not make some money doing what you love? In this post, we’re going to let you in on some “secret” ways to make money with online auctions.
If you don’t live in the Southern California area then this probably won’t apply to you. However, if you do know a business that needs to liquidate, or know someone who wants to hold an estate sale, you can refer them to us and receive a referral fee.
Just be on the lookout while you’re out and about. You might see a business that looks like it’s closing or has closed. You could approach the owner and see if he/she would be interested in liquidating assets.

A while back we did share how you can make money buying bulk items at government surplus auctions/sales and then reselling individual items in online auctions. You can also do this by purchasing liquidation pallets directly from retailers. Check out Bstock.com for liquidation pallets from big-box retailers.
If you absolutely don’t have the cash to buy things to resell, one way you could get started making money is to get things for free. Craigslist has a “Free” category in their “For Sale” section where people list items they just want to give away and get rid of quickly. Of course, you should be very discerning about what you pick up. You have to make sure you’ll even make enough money to make it worth the time and effort.
If you live in an apartment complex, you might have an area where people leave stuff to give away. You could even go “dumpster diving” in apartment complexes near colleges or universities. You’d be surprised by what students will throw away! You could make money off this stuff instead of those things just clogging up a dump somewhere.
Making money with online auctions can be fun if you’re the type of person who likes to hunt for bargains. It all comes down to the amount of effort you want to put into it.
