Estate Downsizing via an Online Estate Sale Auction

Sell items via an online estate sale

Many people are considering downsizing their estates, and it’s not just retired individuals. Maybe you woke up one day and realized that you just have too much “stuff”, you need to sell off assets because of a job loss, or you maybe just decided to go on that world tour you’ve always dreamed about. Holding an online estate sale auction is an option to consider if you want to downsize your estate quickly and easily.

In previous articles we talked about the benefits of doing an online estate sale instead of a traditional estate sale, plus here is an article about how online estate sales work.

In this article we’ll go over the differences between conducting an online estate sale vs other ways to downsize and sell all those treasures you’ve accumulated over the years.

Online Estate Sale vs Garage Sale

Having a garage sale can be a relatively easy way to sell your things. All you have to do is gather everything and put it in your garage, driveway, and lawn.

Now you just have to let people know that you’re having a sale. So you make signs and fliers and post them around the neighborhood. Maybe you put an ad on Craigslist or in the local newspaper.

Then people come to your sale and all is well and great, but of course, everyone wants a bargain so maybe you make some money, but not as much as you would like to. You also have to figure out what to do with all the other stuff that doesn’t sell.

Selling items via an online estate sale is a growing trend and there are many sites where you can upload all the items that you would like to sell. What’s nice about this way of holding an estate sale is that there are buyers already browsing these sites (if it’s a popular site) and you don’t have to spend so much time marketing.

One of the downsides to selling through this type of online market is that you’re selling each item piece by piece, which means it may take awhile for some items to sell.

Online Estate Sale vs Online Auction

On the other hand, if you liquidate assets by holding an online auction through a company that specializes in these types of events, they take care of all the nitty gritty details of getting all of your items online and marketing the sale.

Online auctions are slightly different in that it’s a one-time event with a set start and end time. If marketed correctly, all of your items will be sold and you don’t have to wait for weeks or months to get rid of everything.

How you want to approach your estate sale will all depend on how much time, effort, and resources you want to spend. If you don’t want the hassle of doing it all yourself, you may want to consider hiring an estate sale service provider that specializes in online estate sale auctions.
