Shopping Online Estate Sales: 5 Collectibles to Invest In Now
Collecting is alot of fun, isn’t it? Some people collect things for the simple pleasure of owning items they like, while others collect for the investment value. Some do both – collect things they like at the same time thinking about what those items will be worth in the future. Why put your money in a savings account that gives you 1% interest when you can invest in fun things you can enjoy now and make money from it later?
With that said, if you’re one of those fun and smart people who like to collect/invest, we think you should consider these 5 items to invest in now:
What’s old is new again, which is certainly the case with vintage jewelry and accessories. Case in point: When we were entering descriptions for the latest Father Joe’s Villages/SVDP Specialty Auction, we joked about a vintage beaded necklace thinking it would probably sell for 50 cents or $1. Little did we know that it would sell for $14. Apparently, beaded necklaces are currently on trend.
Depression glass was mass produced during the 1920’s-1930’s. It was very inexpensive and could be found at the dime store, or it was given away as a gift with purchase at gas stations, the movies or in soap detergent boxes. The value of depression glass varies with pieces ranging in price from $10 to over $1,000.
In our upcoming antique store estate sale you’ll be able to find all types of depression glass and other glass collectibles.
This type of pottery has experienced a rise in popularity in recent years. In the 1940’s it was just common kitchenware, but has now become desired by collectors. It was first made in England in the late 1700’s and by the late 19th century it made its way to American shores. Mochaware is now pretty rare with mugs going for a couple hundred dollars and larger pieces fetching thousands of dollars.
These have been collectible items for some time, but now that we depend on technology to tell us what time it is, who knows how much longer desk clocks and mantel clocks will continue to be manufactured? Here is a helpful guide to determine the worth of your old mantel clock. Collectors like vintage Howard Miller mantel clocks and we’ll offer them every once in awhile in our online estate sale auctions.
If you’re a Star Wars fan, you know how people can geek out over any type of memorabilia from this iconic franchise. Just recently rare Star Wars toys fetched over $500K at auction. Also, Sylvester Stallone auctioned off props from the “Rocky” movies.
Keep in mind that as with anything you buy nowadays, the market determines value. Even if you have a rare piece, it may not be so popular, which could result in low value. On the other hand, you could have a popular piece that was mass produced and people are willing to pay big bucks for it.
