Auction Inspection Tips: What to Expect When Attending Our Preview Days

Inspection day for our online auctions

Online auctions are a great way to get bargains on just about anything, but typically when you’re purchasing something online you don’t get to see what you’re actually bidding on until you receive it in the mail. With our online auctions you can attend a preview day to inspect any items prior to placing a bid. That is, if you’re in the San Diego area where our warehouse is located.

If you’ve never attended one of our auction preview days, here are a few tips to help make it a smooth experience…

Browse the catalog and take notes

About two weeks prior to the preview day the catalog for each auction is published on our website. At this time you can view all the items, register to bid, and even start bidding.

We recommend printing out the items or jotting down the lot numbers that you are interested in and bringing these pages with you on preview day. This makes it much easier for us to help you find an item that you want to inspect. Many of our auctions have hundreds of lots, which sometimes makes it challenging to find an item.

Double check address and preview times

This probably goes without saying, but there have been quite a few occasions when a customer comes to our warehouse and the inspection is actually at an off-site location. Also, our usual inspection times are 8:30AM-4PM, but there are times when we may have a shorter inspection day.

Bring your smartphone or tablet

We no longer provide paper catalogs for our auctions, so if you’re inspecting an item and want to view the description, it helps if you have a smartphone or tablet handy.

Bring tools

If you’re inspecting items that require specific tools such as diamonds, gold, or electronic equipment, we recommend bringing your own tools.

Bring a mechanic when inspecting vehicles

We try to provide as much detail as we can about vehicles that go up for auction. Be advised that the only thing you can do when inspecting vehicles is turn them on. No test drives are allowed. If you’re not sure what to look for when inspecting a vehicle, it’s in your best interest to bring along a mechanic or a knowledgeable friend.

Ask questions

We always have one of our team members on hand to answer any questions about items. Don’t hesitate to ask if you’re not sure about what’s included in a specific lot or the description is not clear.
